The wonderous world of hair colours!

Hair Colours

This is going to be my blog about the wondrous world of hair dye as well as some extra parts about new hair products I’m currently trying and a little review of them, enjoy!

Blue, green, purple, black, blonde, red. You can dye your hair a range of rainbow like colours thanks to modern day science however traditionally most people stick to blonde, brunette, red/ginger or black.

Au Natural

My person natural shade is a very dull boring mousy brown colour (some may like this but to me it’s an indecisive colour, as it can’t choose to be brown or blonde, I mean make up your mind
J)

The story

I did used to be a natural blonde up until the age of around thirteen when puberty started to kick in and my body thought it would be funny to mess me up even more by making my hair this dreary nonexistent colour.
For around two years I then used to get my hair highlighted (to keep up with the supposed ‘natural’ blonde image) Until on a whim I decided that perhaps blondes don’t have more fun and decided to take the brave decision to turn to the dark side and become a brunette member.

The comments

My friends always used to joke about me being a true blonde...that is until I dyed my hair and they came up with the inventive nickname of a ‘malteser’ because apparently although I’m externally brown I will forever be blonde on the inside, cheeky or what! ;)

Come to the dark side, we have cookies!

The first stage I took to the darker side was through dark lowlights making me a mid brown however I dreamed of being a chocolate brunette and have pretty much being trying ever since to achieve this dream.
I currently and for around a year now have been using Casting Crème semi permanent hair dye by L’Oreal, because your worth it!
I originally used the shade chocolate then moved onto rich espresso then to chocolate again then to rich honey and then back to chocolate and I’m planning on soon going for the caramel shade.
The product: Casting crème gloss semi permanent dye by L’Oreal

Yeah one of the major disadvantages I find is that they all make me really hungry and have an uber craving for chocolate which I’m sure by now you know why.
The hair dye itself smells actually not too bad and the colour lock conditioner that comes with it smells fabulous and it does actually do its job really well.
The hair dye is easy to apply and doesn’t take very long at all around 30 minutes, it’s designed to do it yourself although I admit I cheat because I get my mum to do it for me because she seems to do it so much better (I told her perhaps she should think of going into the trade and she said there’s only so many times she could ask ‘so where are you going on holiday this year?’ without going mad.)
It leaves your hair nourished with shine and does not leave it dry like many other hair dyes seem to.

Many people say ‘but why do you use a semi permanent?’

And the answer for me is simple, I’m never really fully satisfied with the end colour and I like to experiment to a degree so by getting a semi permanent they don’t last forever. Also I find that with a semi permanent roots are less visible when the dye starts to ‘wear off’ and its less noticeable with is good so that you’re not constantly having to re do your roots or hide them underneath a hat. Although its semi permanent the effect claims to last ’24 washes’ and I can honestly vouch for this. Although I frequently dye my hair the effect lasts quite well for around 5 weeks (and I wash my hair almost every day), also the darker the colour the longer it seems to last.

The colour range

The colours themselves are nice colours although don’t expect them to match exactly the colour on the box but I think that could be said for many hair dyes.

WARNING: if you have a bit of red in your natural hair colour its likely to be amplified unless you choose the ‘iced...’ colours. My hair naturally has some red in it ad particularly with chocolate the red colour was increased and in the first few days it was extremely red however after about 4 days the colour was a really nice shade as a brown/red. Although in all honesty I quite liked the red in it (after a few days) as it gave it a nice combination shade.

New dreams

I have now given up on my chocolate dream and now have new hopes to be a brighter caramel/honey blonde/brown. I’m planning on trying out the caramel shade that casting crème have in their range as I think it will be a nice brighter colour particularly as it becomes more summary (I can’t actually say summer because in England we never get an actual summer we just get the occasional day of hot weather due to the weather god in the sky screwing up because he’s ill with the flu.)
However on the packaging it does recommend for ‘dark blonde hair and light brown hair’ and technically I’m more of a mid brown, however ah well it’ll lighten me up a bit which should be nice. Then I’m very tempted to try the shade sweet honey as it’s a gorgeous golden glowing colour however I’m not sure I want to go that light as I enjoy being on the dark side (my evil side has grown since the beginning).

Should I or shouldn’t I dye...my hair, that is the question

The answer to this question is not a simply yes or no I would honestly say it depends on your natural colour and your braveness. If you’re keen to experiment and dislike your natural shade then I’d say you go girl! Unless you’re a guy in which you go guy! Casting crème are great because they’re not permanent, if you don’t like it don’t worry it’s not one of lives tragedies you can always try again.
However I would say if you quite like you’re natural colour and it’s a gorgeous glossy chocolate (just sobbing here ;)) then maybe re think do you really want to get rid of your gorgeous natural colour that may further cost your money in the process?
Final note casting crème is around £6.50 or a little less (is sold at boots etc) in UK.
